A pattern fit for any aspiring Time Lord…

Update three of four on the crochet challenge held in March. Just to recap, the question was pretty simple: what character would you like to see undergo some crochet cloning? The first suggestion was We Bare Bears from the Cartoon Network. The second was Totoro and Friends, and both have been published in the last few weeks.

So, this week it was time for round 3 *ding, ding ding*. And that meant everyone’s favourite mode of transportation to get around time and space, the TARDIS. I’ve watched Dr Who ever since I can remember, it was such a huge weekly event in our household when I was young. So hopefully this brings a smile to fans of the show.

So without further ado, here it is. One TARDIS ready for action. And if you want to just skip straight to the pattern, click HERE. Otherwise read on for a few more details…

It’s straight forward for a beginner as it doesn’t require much in the way of stitch knowledge , it is entirely half double crochet and single crochet stitches. There is some very basic colour changing to create the windows – but if your not confident with changing yarn colour mid-row, you can skip this and use white felt squares to create the windows instead. Just follow the pattern without the change in yarn colour and attach the felt afterwards. Simple!

For the pattern I used Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in dark blue and white. The usual disclaimer – it’s not an advertisement, it’s simply the yarn I had to hand. I normally make my amigurumi’s in cotton yarn, but this time around I thought the acrylic yarn with a relatively small hook size (3.5mm) would provide the structural stability for such a geometric shape.

To get the squareness of the roof (and again, provide some additional structural support) I used cardboard inserts instead of stuffing. Nothing fancy, just a cut up Amazon box from a lockdown yarn delivery.

Oh, and did I mention the doors open up? That’s right, you can stash away a few collectibles. Or even a Chibi Totoro…

And I think that’s it! So thanks again for checking out the blog and here’s that link to the pattern one more time, click HERE.

And just in case you were wondering what the suggestions were in the crochet challenge, here’s what we’re working towards:

  • We Bare Bears
  • Totoro and Friends
  • The TARDIS (from Dr Who)
  • Beetlejuice

So we’re currently three down, one to go! Let me know what you think in the comments. Maybe you want to see more Dr Who? perhaps a Dalek or even an adipose baby? It would be a shame for a TARDIS to sit empty!
