Mini Nisse (Gnome/Elf)

FREE CROCHET AMIGURUMI PATTERN

About this pattern:

Quick to work up, these mini nisse can be hung from the tree or just littered around the home as cute Christmas decorations!

The materials required are listed below. The yarn used to make them as pictured was Drops Safran (cotton) yarn in navy blue, mustard yellow, rust brown, dark green, beige and white.

You can mix up the colours, add some glitter, add some stitched decoration – whatever suits your mood. 🙂

Materials:

• Sports Weight Yarn (navy, mustard, beige and white)
•  2.5mm crochet hook
• Stitch markers and pins
• Yarn needle
• Stuffing
• Pet hair slicker (optional, to fluff up the beard)

Stitch Abbreviations:

Sc = Single crochet
Slip st = Slip stitch
Invdec = invisible decrease
Sc2tog = single crochet decrease
** = a repeating stitch pattern

Measurements:

The completed piece measures approx. 11 cm tall.

Stitches are written in standard US terms working in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified.

Let’s Get Started!

MAIN BODY

Using navy yarn, working in continuous rounds

Rnd 1 : Stitch 6sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 : 2sc in each stitch around (12)
Rnd 3 : *sc, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 4 : *sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 5 : *sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 6-14 : sc in each stitch around (30)
Rnd 15 : *sc in next 3 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 16 : *sc in next 2 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (18)
Start to stuff the body, and continue to stuff as you go.
Rnd 17 : *sc, invdec* Repeat 6 times (12)
Rnd 18 : sc2tog round to close.

Fasten off.

BEARD

To create the beard, cut lengths of white yarn approximately twice as long as the body is high. As shown in the photos, insert a hook through a stitch gap, and pull through one of the lengths of yarn (folded in half) to form a loop. Pull the ends of the yarn, through the loop and pull tight.

Start approx 4 rows down from the top, and repeat this process working along in a row for around 8 stitches. Once complete, repeat a row of 8 either above or below the row already created.

Keep repeating if you want a wider or bushier beard. Don’t worry if the lengths look untidy or are uneven, they can be trimmed at the end.

Once you are happy with the number of strands you can then use a wide tooth metal pet hair brush to come through the beard to make it fuller.

NOSE

Using beige yarn, working in the round:

Rnd 1 : Work 6sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 : *sc, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 3 : sc in each stitch around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Using the tail end yarn and a yarn needle, attach the nose overlapping the beard as shown in the photo below.

HAT
Using yellow yarn, working in continuous rounds:

Rnd 1 : Work 3sc into a magic ring (3)
Rnd 2-3 : sc in each stitch around (3)
Rnd 4 : 2sc in each stitch around (6)
Rnd 5-6 : sc in each stitch around (6)
Rnd 7 : *sc, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 8-9 : sc in each stitch around (9)
Rnd 10 : *sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (12)
Rnd 11-12 : sc in each stitch around (12)
Rnd 13 : *sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (15)
Rnd 14 : sc in each stitch around (15)
Rnd 15 : *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (18)
Rnd 16 : sc in each stitch around (18)
Rnd 17 : *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (21)
Rnd 18 : sc in each stitch around (21)
Rnd 19 : *sc in next 6 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (24)
Rnd 20 : *sc in next 7 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (27)
Rnd 21 : *sc in next 8 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (30)
Rnd 22 : *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 23 : sc in each stitch around (36)

Fasten off.

Attach the hat around the head so that the front sits directly over the top of the nose and conceals where the beard is attached.

The hat should be oversized enough that you can either keep it straight and pointy, or pinch it so that it is a little squiggly (as shown in the final photograph below).
