FREE CROCHET AMIGURUMI PATTERN

About this pattern:

A little Lovecraftian magic in today’s free pattern with this cute chibi Cthulhu.

The materials required are listed below. The yarn used to make her as pictured was Drops Paris (cotton) yarn in grey and lime green, but really you can choose any colour combination you desire – just let your imagination go wild.

Materials:

  • Aran Weight Yarn (two colours)
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • 2 x 9 mm safety eyes
  • Stitch markers and pins
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing

Stitch Abbreviations:

Ch = Chain stitch
Sc = Single crochet
Slip st = Slip stitch
Invdec = Invisible decrease
Sc2tog = Single crochet decrease
** = a repeating stitch pattern

Measurements:

The completed pieces measure approx. 15 cm tall.

Pattern Notes:

Stitches are written in standard US terms working in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified.

Let’s Get Started!

Cthulhu

ARMS (Make 2)

Using your choice of main colour yarn, working in continuous rounds

Rnd 1 : Work 6sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 : *sc in next stitch, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 3-4 : sc in each stitch around (9)
Rnd 5 : *sc in next stitch, invdec* Repeat 3 times (6)

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail for attaching.

FEET (Make 2)

Using your choice of main colour yarn, working in continuous rounds

Rnd 1 : Work 6sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 : *sc in next stitch, 2sc* Repeat 3 times (9)
Rnd 3 : sc in each stitch around (9)

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail for attaching.

WINGS (Make 2)

The wings are worked from the bottom up.

Using your choice of contrast colour yarn, working in ROWS. Ch1 and turn at the end of each round.

Rnd 1: Ch13. Working into the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the first 3 stitches, 2sc, sc in the next 3 stitches, sc2tog, sc in the remaining 3. (12)
Rnd 2: sc in the first 2 stitches, 2sc, sc in the next 3 stitches, slip st in the next (8)
Rnd 3: Slip st into the first st, sc in the remaining 7 stitches (8)
Switch to main colour yarn
Rnd 4: sc in each st along and then sc in each of the unworked stitches from Rnd 2. (12)

BODY

Using the main colour yarn, working in continuous rounds

Rnd 1 : Work 6sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 : 2sc in each stitch around (12)
Rnd 3: *sc, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 4: *sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 5: *sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 6: *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 7-13: sc in each stitch around (36)
Rnd 14: *sc in next 4 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 15: *sc in next 3 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 16: *sc in next 2 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 17: *sc in next stitch, invdec* Repeat 6 times (12)

Stuff down into the body before continuing.

Rnd 18: *sc, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 19: *sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 20: *sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 21: *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 22: *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 6 times (42)
Rnd 23: sc in each stitch around (42)

You will now start to create the tentacles while you work Rnd 24 and 26.

Rnd 24: sc in the first 17 stitches, **Slip st FLO in next stitch, ch13, working into the 2nd ch st from the hook, *sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times*, sc in the remaining 3 ch stitches. Slip st FLO into the next stitch** Repeat 4 times. sc in the last 17 stitches. (42)
Rnd 25: sc in first 17 stitches, sc BLO in the next 8 stitches, sc in the remaining 17 stitches (42)
Rnd 26: sc in the first 16 stitches, **Slip st FLO in next stitch, ch13, working into the 2nd ch st from the hook, *sc in the next 2 stitches, 2sc* Repeat 3 times*, sc in the remaining 3 ch stitches. Slip st FLO into the next stitch** Repeat 5 times. sc in the last 16 stitches. (42)
Rnd 27-28: sc in each stitch around (42)
Rnd 29: *sc in next 5 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 30: *sc in next 4 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 31: *sc in next 3 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 32: *sc in next 2 stitches, invdec* Repeat 6 times (18)
Rnd 33: *sc in next stitch, invdec* Repeat 6 times (12)
Rnd 34: invdec in each stitch around (6)

Fasten off. Using the tail end yarn and a yarn needle stitch around the opening and pull tight to close.

FINISH

To finish, just attach the arms, feet and wings as shown in the photos below.
