ASSEMBLY

Now that all the pieces have been created, your mermaid can finally come together!

First, attach the arms to the upper body using the tail end yarn and a yarn needle.

Wrap the frill piece around the centre of the body to cover the join with the tail. Be sure to centre the mid point with the centre of the body.

Attach the bikini shells on the upper body, then wrap a tail end around the back to create the bikini strap.

For the hair, it can help to pin it in place first giving you the chance to adjust it before committing to the stitch! See the photos below to demonstrate how they have been attached, but here are some steps as to how they are lined up:

  • To begin, ignore the first and last two shorter strands, as these will form the fringe pieces and will be fixed last
  • Align the seam in line with the right eye to create the side parting
  • Pin strands 2 to 5 down this seam line
  • Line up strands 9 to 12 with those already pinned, with the seams meeting
  • Line up the remaining three strands at the back (strands 6 to 8) to face down the back of the head.
  • Fix the seams in place, then stitch around the base of the head, ensuring the strands lay next to each other. It’s best to start with the centre/back of the head and work forward.
  • Once all the main strands are in place and the head is covered, loosely fix the fringe strands (1, 13 and 14) around the face.

All that’s left is to fix her star fish into her hair!
