Moomin Troll Family

CROCHET AMIGURUMI PATTERN

This pattern is inspired by some of the adorable inhabitants of Moominvalley, from the Tove Jansson stories. The pattern covers how to create the basic Moomin Troll and then how to make all the accessories required for Moomin Pappa, Moomin Mamma and Snorkmaiden.

The pattern has been worked up in aran weight cotton yarn (Brand: Drops Paris), but you could substitute for a different weight/yarn type as long as you change the hook size accordingly.

But first a few details:

Terminology: The pattern is written in English, in standard US terminology

Measurements: The finished piece measures approx. 19cm tall to the top of the ears, 22cm with the Moomin Pappa’s hat.


What you’ll need:

  • Aran weight yarn (Drops Paris) – White, Black, Red and Yellow
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • 9 mm safety eyes (x8)
  • Stuffing material
  • Stitch markers and pins (optional)
  • Yarn needle

Stitch Knowledge Required:

  • Magic ring
  • Slip stitch
  • Chain stitch
  • Single crochet stitch
  • Front loops only
  • Back loops only
  • Invisible decrease

  1. Is it okay that a certain lady sells your design on these trolls? I don’t think so. Who has the patent on them?
    There is a woman who sells a lot of designs, which she says are hers, but obviously they are not. Can you do something to stop her?
