Link Christmas Stocking

FREE CROCHET PATTERN

About this pattern:

Is Christmas really complete without a few stockings hanging around? How about adding a little geek chic to your festive cheer? These stocking are designed to create that traditional festive with a little Legend of Zelda inspiration!

The materials required are listed below. The yarn used to make them as pictured was Red Heart Super Saver (acrylic) yarn in in three colours – green, white and brown – with scraps of yellow yarn for detailing.

You can even add some stitched triforce decoration – whatever suits your mood. 🙂

Materials:

• Aran Weight Yarn (green, white and brown)
•  5mm crochet hook
• Stitch markers and pins
• Yarn needle

Stitch Abbreviations:

Sc = Single crochet
Hdc = Half double crochet
Dc = Double crochet
Tc = Triple crochet
Slip st = Slip stitch
Sc2tog = Single crochet decrease
BLO = Back loops only
** = a repeating stitch pattern

Measurements:

The completed piece measures approx. 40 cm tall.

Stitches are written in standard US terms working in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified.

Let’s Get Started!

TOE

Using accent colour (white) yarn, working in rounds. Slip st to join and ch1 at the end of each round.

Rnd 1 : Stitch 9hdc into a magic ring (9)
Rnd 2 : 2hdc in each stitch around (18)
Rnd 3 : *hdc in next 2 stitches, 2hdc* Repeat 6 times (24)
Rnd 4 : *hdc in next 3 stitches, 2hdc* Repeat 6 times (30)
Rnd 5 : *hdc in next 4 stitches, 2hdc* Repeat 6 times (36)
Rnd 6 : *hdc in next 5 stitches, 2hdc* Repeat 6 times (42)
Rnd 7-8 : hdc in each stitch around (42)
Switch to main colour (green) yarn
Rnd 9-18 : hdc in each stitch around (42)

Prepare to switch to accent colour yarn for the heel and fasten off main colour.

HEEL

Using accent colour (white) yarn, working in rows. ch1 and turn at the end of the each row.

Start from the end of Rnd 18 as normal, but we will only work into half the round.

Rnd 1 : sc in the first 21 stitches (21)
Rnd 2 : sc2tog, hdc in the next 3, dc in the next 4, 2tc, tc, 2tc, dc in the next 4, hdc in the next 3, sc2tog to finish (21)
Rnd 3 : sc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3, dc in the next 4, tc in the next 3, dc in the next 4, hdc in the next 3, sc in the remaining 2 stitches (21)
Rnd 4 : sc in the first 2 stitches, hdc in the next 2, dc in the next 3, dc2tog, tc in the next 3, dc2tog, dc in the next 3, hdc in the next 2, sc in the remaining 2 stitches (19)
Rnd 5 : sc in the first stitch, sc2tog, hdc in the next 13 stitches, sc2tog, sc in the remaining stitch (17)
Rnd 6 : sc in the first stitch, sc2tog, hdc in the next 11 stitches, sc2tog, sc in the remaining stitch (15)
Rnd 7 : sc in the first stitch, sc2tog, hdc in the next 9 stitches, sc2tog, sc in the remaining stitch (13)
Rnd 8 : sc in the first stitch, sc2tog, hdc in the next 7 stitches, sc2tog, sc in the remaining stitch (11)
Rnd 9 : sc in the first stitch, sc2tog, sc2tog, hdc, sc2tog, sc2tog, sc in the last stitch (7)
Fasten off.

Work 7 sc stitches from the edge of the heel along the row ends, then 7sc stitches along Rnd 9 of the heel, then pick up another 7 sc stitches over the other set of row ends and over to the other side.

The heel is now complete.

Switch back to your green yarn. You now have 21 stitches across the heel (white) and 21 stitches around the end of the toe section (Rnd 18). So now now have a full set of 42 stitches to carry on your sock for Rnd 19 onwards.

MAIN SOCK

Using main green yarn, working in rounds. Slip st to join and ch1 at the end of each round.

Stitches in brown text indicate BROWN yarn to be used.
Stitches in blue text indicate WHITE yarn to be used.

Rnd 19-22 : hdc in each stitch around (42)
Switch to brown yarn
Rnd 23-24 : hdc in each stitch around (42)
Switch back to green yarn
Rnd 25-30 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the remaining 16 stitches (42)
Rnd 31 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next stitch, hdc in the remaining 12 stitches (42)
Rnd 32 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the remaining 11 stitches (42)
Rnd 33 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the remaining 10 stitches (42)
Rnd 34 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 4 stitches, hdc in the remaining 9 stitches (42)
Rnd 35 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 5 stitches, hdc in the remaining 8 stitches (42)
Rnd 36 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 6 stitches, hdc in the remaining 7 stitches (42)
Rnd 37 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 7 stitches, hdc in the remaining 6 stitches (42)
Rnd 33 : hdc in the first 24 stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc in the next 8 stitches, hdc in the remaining 5 stitches (42)
Switch to white yarn for full round. fasten off green and brown.
Rnd 39-40 : hdc in each stitch around (42)
Fasten off.

RIBBED CUFF

Using accent colour (white) yarn, working in rows. Ch1 and turn at the end of each row.

Rnd 1 : Ch11. Working into the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in each stitch along (10)
Rnd 2 : hdc in first stitch, hdc BLO in the next 8 stitches, hdc in the final stitch (10)
Rnd 3-39 : Repeat Rnd 2 (10)
Fasten off leaving a loooooooong tail for attaching.

The ribbed piece should be able to wrap around the top of the stocking – you can increase or decrease the number of rounds accordingly to get the right length.

Using the tail end yarn, whip stitch the two short sides of the ribbed piece together.

Then whip stitch the ribbed band to the top of the stocking (Note: the band will be slightly wider than the top of the stocking as it needs enough give to be able to fold over. As you stitch around, keep the stocking taught but the ribbed band relaxed).

Once attached, fold over to create the cuff.
